Technical Advice · Escalator Maintenance
What is an escalator maintenance audit?
An escalator maintenance audit is an independent review of equipment condition, maintenance quality, operating reliability, service history, and the maintenance contractor's performance against the requirements of the maintenance agreement.
Look beyond whether the escalator is running
An operating escalator can still have developing maintenance or condition concerns. The review may consider cleanliness, lubrication, adjustment, steps, tracks, handrails, comb areas, drives, controls, safety devices, visible wear, recurring shutdowns, and evidence of deferred maintenance.
Compare field condition with the contract
Maintenance records, callback history, testing obligations, repair coverage, and contract requirements should be considered together with field observations. This helps ownership determine whether the maintenance program is delivering the level of service required.
Prioritize corrective action
A useful audit distinguishes maintenance deficiencies from capital repair or modernization needs and organizes findings by urgency. The result gives ownership a practical basis for discussions with the maintenance provider, budgeting, repair planning, or modernization evaluation.
